It’s a surreal serendipity that as we gather in Martin Place, we are flanked by colourful flags strung from the light poles with some ‘what if’ questions gathered as part of a City of Sydney public art program. As I look down the left side of the square, there is a very apt triptych fluttering in the sun, printed on bright pink, blue and yellow, asking:
WHAT IF… WE WERE PREPARED TO SACRIFICE COMFORT FOR CHANGE?
WHAT IF… TRUTH MATTERED?
WHAT IF… THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD HAPPENS?
If the police ask us to take down our signs, I know where I’ll be pointing.
